IS CANELO STILL HUNGRY?

By AnaLiBox

After watching Canelo lose to Dmitry Bivol this past May, we have to ask – Is Canelo still Hungry?
Even though Canelo was not knocked out during the above mentioned fight, and even though Canelo used good defensive boxing skills, Dmitry showed that he could keep Canelo at bay by controlling the fight with his constant Jabs and showing no weakness when it came to Canelo’s “Power Punches”. Some weeks ago, Canelo confessed what was obvious to all of us watching him struggle that night against Bivol: “I got tired” said Canelo, while being interviewed during a Promotion Press Conference for his upcoming Trilogy Fight with GGG. Many have speculated as of “why?” Canelo could not defeat Bivol, with theories ranging from “Canelo was too small for the 175 lbs Fight” or “Canelo was maybe sick or had personal problems while facing Bivol”. One thing is certain, Canelo looked exhausted and confused when Dmitry showed no signs of being affected by the so-called “Punches to the Arm” made now famous by Canelo.

This is what leads us to the question – Is Canelo still hungry for glory? Or has his career transformed into a routine of “let’s make the easiest fight possible with the most money gained possible”. In short words, the hunger is still there, but in the wrong area, being hungry for money instead of being hungry for greatness and legacy. Canelo will soon reach his final years as a boxer, and as he gets closer to his 40 years of age, losses are likely to happen more often. I wouldn’t be surprised if in his next fight against GGG he takes another loss, not due to his ability or experience as a boxer, but due to his lack of hunger in the sport of boxing. Is also no secret that he spends an equal amount of time at the golf course as he does at the boxing gym, training under Eddy Reynoso, but so far we haven’t seen Eddy playing golf along with Canelo at the Del Mar Golf center in Southern California. On the contrary, Canelo seems to take time away from Eddy and the “Canelo Team” to join a different community of people for around 4 hours a day, every single day, according to what Canelo himself has admitted, “he needs” to practice golf daily in order to relax his mind, he claims. Another thing to note, if we pay attention to Canelo’s instagram posts in recent days and weeks, we notice that the main topic of his stories is Golf, reason to believe that his interests are shifting rapidly into another sport which is definitely not boxing; to the point of him wearing his own branded clothes under the motto “No Golf, No Life”. This is a clear message to all of us boxing fans, Canelo would not consider himself living if he doesn’t have Golf as part of his daily routine; this alone should be a “warning” sign for Eddy Reynoso and his team, and a call to action for every possible boxing rival that would like to face Canelo, from Charlo to Errol Spence Jr, if there is a perfect time to beat canelo then it is now as it appears that Canelo’s hunger is focused outside of the ring.
