ARE PEOPLE LOSING INTEREST IN SPENCE JR vs BUD CRAWFORD?

Biggest fight in boxing 🥊

In boxing today there is no bigger fight than a clash between the Top 2 Welterweight contenders in the world. Two men Top 5 in most respectable P4P lists. Both undefeated in their respective campaigns, both leaving behind a trail of corpses. We’re talking about Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford of course!

Boxing has a big problem of having multiple “Champions” simultaneously, so a unification match is a very big deal. This year alone we’ve seen Devin Haney and Jermell Charlo become undisputed king of their divisions earning the right to be called Champion. Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford hope to follow suit and become The Champion at one of boxing’s most prestigious divisions.

CLAIM TO THE THRONE – ERROL SPENCE JR

Spence Jr

#1 contender Errol Spence Jr 28-0 (22) is now 32 years of age with an impressive record including multiple key victories. This impressive list of “man down” includes Kell Brook, Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia and most recently Yordenis Ugas. Along the way Spence Jr has picked up the WBC, WBA and IBF titles. Simply put Errol Spence Jr has not found his welterweight equal yet.

CLAIM TO THE THRONE – TERENCE CRAWFORD

#2 contender Terence Crawford is 38-0 (29) now 34 years of age with an impressive record few can match up against. Unlike Errol Spence Jr, Crawford has reached the pinnacle of the sport having become Champion at Jr. Welterweight unifying the titles against Julius Indongo. Terence Crawford also has victories over Yuriorkis Gamboa, Egidijus Kavaliauska, Kell Brook and most recently Shawn Porter. Bud Crawford has won his last 9 fights inside the distance!

WHAT’S THE HOLDUP?

This fight has been brewing for what seems like an eternity now with various things holding it back. Errol Spence Jr said that he would pursue unifying the WBC, WBA, IBF belts before fighting Crawford. Now after collecting the final piece against Yordenis Ugas the belts are in the hands of just two men! So what’s holding the fight up now? Well, reports have it that Terence Crawford wants a 50/50 purse split to fight for this unification bout. While Spence Jr and his team believe that Errol is the A side, having done the heavy lifting, so he deserves the lion’s share of the revenue. As a fan I want to say just agree to 50/50, but from a business perspective and who has put in more work it appears Spence Jr has a solid case. Some have suggested a 60/40 split, while others think they should split 45/45 with the winner picking up the other 10 percent. Negotiations have been on going with fans now impatiently waiting for a fight announcement. The question now beckons; Are people losing interest in Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford? I believe the answer is NO. Despite numerous big fights announced (Canelo/GGG, Usyk/Joshua 2) fans have remained uber focused on Spence vs Crawford. Social media is always buzzing at any news surrounding the fight and while some seem to be annoyed at the delay, they are still talking about the fight! So, regardless of whether you’re team Spence or team Crawford one thing is for certain when those two titans meet in the ring it’ll be for all the marbles, it’ll be for bragging rights, it’ll be bull against bull, shark against shark, elite vs elite. And when the dust settles the world will finally know who’s the BIG FISH in the Welterweight division!
